So, Marc Andre has decided that he needs to go to Barca, what a surprise! NOT. :wut2: "I am a Gladbacher through and through" well I say ,prove it.No loyalty .What if the fans were the same, eh? There would be no Borussia or Freiburg or Augsburg. We'd all be Barca fans or Real or Manchester United or God forbid FC Bayern! It's crap! Borussia have made him what he is. Brought out the talent he has and he says thanks for aLl that but I'm off now for millions more. :schildborussia:

Honestly I don't like that kind of thinking oldparish.
Obviously there is a reason to be disappointed because one of our best players leaves us. On the other hand I don't think his decision had too much to do with money or any damnable motivations.
Marc has got an offer from Barcelona. How many times in your career do you get a chance like that? If he doesn't take the opportunity this summer it might be gone for the rest of his career. Which big club will be looking for a new keeper in the next years? Bayern, United, Chelsea (Courtois), Madrid and Co just switched their keepers 2-3 years ago or already made a decision about their next keeper.

Barcelona is a life-time chance for Marc, we'll get an awful lot of money for a keeper with a one-year rest contract. Borussia should be proud if the coming up Barcelona keeper is Marc. That'd mean one of the most important players in one of the most important clubs has been developed and educated by Borussia Mönchengladbach. That hasn't happened for quite some years.
So we should appreciate what Marc has done for us and understand that we can not offer a perspective like Barcelona. Even players from Paris, Man City, Arsenal or other really big european clubs would probably leave for Barca.

Concerning Borussia's perspective I am quite optimistic, that this year's situation is different from two years ago. It's only one (not three) player who leaves us on a position that is much easier to replace than CB, CM and CF. Especially in a country like Germany. The guys who are linked with us (Sommer, Trapp, Baumann) all have an excellent quality and show our ambitions. Moreover they are all less expensive than ter Stegen will be so there'll be more chances to improve our squad elsewhere. The club is very stable at the moment and I am sure we can reach Europe this year. Raffael, Stranzl, Herrmann, Xhaka and Kruse will all stay (99% I guess) and we will still be able to do the next step. No matter if Marc stays or leaves us for a huge amount of money. :daumenhoch:

frank,I realize all you are saying and I understand totally. It's a brilliant opportunity for Marc. Unfortunately, as a fan, I can't figure it out. If I were a born and bred Gladbacher I would never want to play for any other club.
I am more than happy the way things are going generally. We are at the right end of the table trying for Europe and not fighting relegation .Lucien Favre and Max Eberl have worked hard to bring in quality players and that is beginning to show. Do you think we may try Janis Blaswich in goal? If not I would go for Baumann. Also will we be signing Fabian Schaer in the summer? Sad to hear that it looks like Roooeeeel will be leaving! Same as Christopher Heimeroth loyal to the last. The motto is true, "EINMAL BORUSSE, IMMER BORUSSE". :schildborussia:

Definitely right. If I had the opportunity to play for Borussia now and even earn several million euros by doing that I could not figure out any reason why I should leave (especially not for Barcelona who I really don't like that much). However, I think once you become a professional, your perspective changes a little and in the end it stays reasonnable that Marc leaves for Barcelona even if many of us wouldn't do it from our perspective now.

I think you are not alone with the opinion that things are going really well for Borussia. We are probably the club that made the biggest development in the last couple of years. Our squad is stronger than two years ago and we play more stable and with a stronger concept than even two years ago with Reus and Dante. The team is less dependant from single players and the squad is very broadly assembled. We need to leave either Dortmund, Schalke or Wolfsburg behind us to make it to the CL Playoffs again and I am sure if nobody beside Marc leaves us, we could pass them this time. Remaining in 3rd position seems to be too difficult for me (considering the teams behind us). Nevertheless the fourth or fifth position in this strong Bundesliga would be a huge success that'd give us good arguments for other nice transfers this summer and to improve our team again this summer.

Talking about improving the squad I don't think it'd be sufficient to put Blaswich in goal to be honest. I've seen him play only twice but you can not expect that your club raises innumerable class keepers consecutively. Blaswich might be talented, but we need such a high level which I doubt he'd be able to play constantly right from the beginning. Therefore Baumann would also be my first choice (Sommer and Trapp are also CL level keepers though).
Haven't heard anything about Schaer for quite a while now, but he seems to be a good CB. If we sign him, that'd probably mean good-bye to Roel. I'd be a bit sad if Roel leaves, but again this belongs to a continous development in the club. Doesn't look to good for Heimeroth either. I hope there's a way for them to stay but if Borussia could establish in the Top5 there will be some point where we can and should afford better players on their positions. Maybe one of them wants to join our staff or play 1 or 2 more years for our second team one day.

Hey, OP, did you hear (or read) any rumours about ManUtd. and Favre?

Herbert, there's been a lot said in the radio "phone-ins" about Moyes' position at the "Theatre of Dreamers" but I haven't heard Lucien Favre mentioned(so far) thank the Good Lord. The United glory hunters want him out as they can't handle not being top dogs anymore but the true fans are willing to give him a chance. After all, Ferguson chose him! If I hear anything I'll put it on here. Surely he won't leave now he's building something a little special, I think. I totally agree with what Frank has just written. And, if S04 are buying Sam as an insurance against Draxler (Kicker 09/01/2014) leaving then I guess the same thing applies to us in regard MAtS. :schildborussia:

Herbert, maybe Cormac may have heard something over in the "Emerald Isle". I'm sure if he has he'd put it up here for us all to read immediately.
